Cadenza-Styled Lessons

Cadenza-styled lessons are inspired by the musical term "cadenza," a unique moment in a piece where the performer tailors or invents a flourish or ornament that reflects their personal style—no two are ever exactly the same! These lessons are perfect for motivated self-starters, working professional musicians, and university students who prefer the flexibility to book lessons on their own schedule.

Through our online booking portal, you can reserve lessons at your convenience without the commitment of a recurring weekly time. However, please note that availability may vary week to week, and there is no guarantee your preferred time will always be available—some weeks, there may be no extra spots at all.

Key Features of the Cadenza Program:

  • No Administration Fee: Enjoy a hassle-free process with no additional enrollment costs.
  • Simplified Studio Policy: Most policies, including the three-week paid notice for stopping lessons and the 50% holding fee for long absences, do not apply.
  • Pay-As-You-Go: Payment is made via eTransfer or cash before each lesson. Rates are $60 for 30 minutes, $75 for 45 minutes, and $90 for an hour.
  • Full Studio Access: Participate in all studio events, including recitals, workshops, and masterclasses, just like my weekly students.

This option is perfect for those with unpredictable schedules or who thrive in an independent learning environment. Cadenza-styled lessons offer maximum flexibility and professional-level instruction tailored to your unique needs and schedule.

What is Taught at the Lakeshore Conservatory?

Voice Lessons

Everyone can sing—my goal is to help you or your child learn to sing well. Whether you're new to singing or looking to refine your skills, I will guide you in mastering vocal technique, proper breathing, diction, and stage presence.

Each lesson is carefully structured to include:

  • Technique: Building a solid vocal foundation.
  • Repertoire: Exploring and performing songs in multiple genres.
  • Musicianship: Developing essential musical skills.

As a professional opera singer performing internationally, I bring real-world experience to teaching the soul-fulfilling art of song. I prepare students for RCM Examinations, festivals, competitions, and auditions for universities or performances.

I recommend students begin voice lessons at 8 years old, but exceptions can be made for younger students based on merit and readiness. Whether you're pursuing a career in music or singing for personal enjoyment, my lessons are tailored to help you achieve your goals.

Piano Lessons

Playing the piano in any genre is about making music and creating art. A strong technique and a good practice routine are the tools that will help bring the music in your head to life.

Each piano lesson is designed to develop well-rounded musicianship, with a focus on:

  • Technique: Building the skills to play confidently and expressively.
  • Musicianship: Enhancing your understanding of rhythm, harmony, and dynamics.
  • Repertoire: Exploring pieces across various genres to suit your interests and goals.

I can prepare you or your child for RCM Examinations, festivals, and competitions, tailoring lessons to fit your individual needs and aspirations.

All lessons are taught in-studio, and students must have a keyboard or piano at home for regular practice. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced player, I’ll help you sharpen your skills and enjoy the art of playing the piano.

Theory Lessons

Music theory is an essential foundation for any musician, whether you're learning piano, voice, or focusing exclusively on theoretical studies. While theory preparation is integrated into piano and voice lessons, I also offer standalone theory lessons tailored to those preparing for university entrance or RCM theory examinations.

Under the umbrella of Theory Lessons, I provide preparation for:

  • Harmony
  • History
  • Rudiments

For students working on Level 8 RCM theory or higher, an additional $5 fee is added per lesson to cover homework grading outside of lesson time, ensuring we maximize the instructional time together. This fee does not apply to Cadenza-styled lessons.

Whether you're aiming to deepen your musical understanding or fulfill academic requirements, I’ll guide you step-by-step to help you achieve your goals.
