Quick Summary – Studio Policy Highlights
Absences
Life happens, and I completely understand that schedules can shift! If you need to miss a lesson, please give at least 48 hours' notice so we can try to find a make-up time that works for both of us. Make-ups are always the first option and help keep musical momentum going—skipping weeks is a last resort and not encouraged as consistency is key to progress.
If we’re unable to find a suitable time for a make-up, the lesson fee will be credited toward the following month’s invoice. Lessons missed without at least 48 hours' notice will be charged in full, as that time has been reserved just for you.
Important for June:
If a lesson is missed with proper notice in June and we can’t find a make-up time before the end of the month, the fee can be used toward a summer lesson in July or August. Please note: summer credits expire at the start of the fall session in early September.
Illness
If you're under the weather, please stay home - no 48-hour notice needed in this case. If you're feeling up for it, we can easily switch to a Zoom lesson. Just let me know via email, phone, or text, and we’ll either meet online, find another time, or apply the fee to your next invoice.
Teacher Cancellation
If I ever need to cancel a lesson, I’ll provide make-up options. If we can’t reschedule, the fee of the missed lesson will roll over to the next month, or if it’s June, count towards a summer lesson!
Arriving Late
Please try your best to arrive on time! My studio schedule is usually fully booked, so it's rare that I can extend lesson times if you arrive late.
Vacation or Other Conflicts
I completely understand that life sometimes calls for travel or other exciting commitments! That said, your lesson time is a dedicated weekly slot held just for you. If you’ll be away for three or more consecutive weeks, a holding fee of 50% of your regular lesson rate will be required to keep your spot reserved during your time away.
Make-up lessons during extended absences are not guaranteed, but if we are able to find a time for one, the cost of that make-up will be deducted from the holding fee already paid.
If you decide not to continue with lessons after an extended absence, the standard three weeks’ written and paid notice will still apply.
Please note: This policy does not apply to the studio’s regular holiday closures (e.g., December break, March Break), which are already accounted for in the yearly calendar and billing.
Stopping Lessons
If you’re thinking about discontinuing lessons, I kindly ask for a conversation so we can reflect on the journey, celebrate your progress, and wrap things up in a positive way. Whether it’s the student or the parent reaching out, I appreciate open communication.
For mid-year withdrawals, I require three weeks’ written notice, and those lessons must still be paid as scheduled. This notice period allows for a smooth and respectful transition for everyone.
As a general studio guideline, consistent attendance from September to June is strongly encouraged. Regular lessons provide the stability and continuity needed for meaningful musical development.
Students may be deregistered from the studio if there are ongoing concerns such as:
That said, if something isn’t working or life becomes complicated, please reach out. I’m always happy to have a conversation and find a solution together whenever possible.
